A long time ago, meta descriptions were a ranking factor for Google, which helped webpages rank.
Nowadays it does not help to rank your web pages and it does not affect SEO but,
– a catchy and informative meta description can help improve CTR (click-through rate) when displayed.
Tips to write a catchy meta description:
- Keep it less than 160 characters and make it easy to read.
- Include primary and secondary keywords naturally without overstuffing.
- Highlight the value proposition and include a call to action like “Learn more” or “Discover.”
- Ensure the description matches the page content to avoid misleading users.
- Write unique descriptions for each page to avoid confusion.
Adding a meta description does not always guarantee to display but adding a catchy line is always a good practice.
